2021 Week 33 Menu Plan

The 2021 week 33 menu plan is complete. We will be leaving on Thursday morning on a road trip taking us to Ohio and Illinois. We have made some meal plans in advance, but many meals will be dependent on what is available when we are ready to stop.

I have an inordinate amount of leftovers from week 32 which must be eaten before we leave. Our plans changed drastically last weekend with me puppy sitting and the ‘Ole Buckeye taking part in a weekend sail race to Cape Charles. Most of the meals planned for Saturday and Sunday were scraped until now. So if it looks like we are eating a lot of leftovers…we are!

Originally I planned on utilizing recipes from Eatwell 101 during week 33. I have used a number of recipes from this site in the past. You can plug in the diet plan that you follow, which is a great feature. I am now only making the breakfast muffins from that site, and will use the other recipes I want to try at a later time.

Breakfast

I plan to pack BAM cake and muffins for the road trip. These muffins are new and look to be easily transported. First Watch is a favorite breakfast spot of the ‘Ole Buckeye’s and happens to be very close to the hotel where we are staying at the Easton Town Center.

There are lots of lunches on the road. We always pack snacks and watch for healthy choices as we drive.

Dinner

I am actually excited about all of the dinners out we have planned. True is a wonderful restaurant that we first experienced in California. I was overjoyed when I found one in Easton Center. We are having a family dinner at Brio after a celebration of life. On Monday we plan to take an old friend Peter to dinner at Wildfire, one of our favorites in Illinois.

Since Giant Blueberry Pancake, BAM Cake, and Cheapskate Soup have all become THM E family favorites, I will not take the time to once again offer accolades. 

Smarty Pants Stroganoff

The new recipe that I tried from the Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook was the Smarty Pants Stroganoff on page 44. I have a great recipe for stroganoff but it is labor intensive. This version is so very simple. It is beef, onions, and mushrooms layerd with broth and seasonings in a crock pot and voila, 6 hours later add thickener and sour cream and dinner is ready. I did add additional spice…paprika. Great over mashed cauliflower. I will definitely fix this in the future, especially on hot days.

The plan for Friday evening was music in the park and Food Trucks: Luvabowls, Miki’s Dog House, A Bite of Maine, and Rita’s Italian ice. As it turned out my sinus headache had not abated enough to weather the 95 degrees or the pollen. We decide to order from Luvabowls.

So we picked up dinner and brought it home. I had a Chipotle Bowl and the ‘Ole Buckeye had a Greek Bowl. Both were very good.

The weekend turned itself completely upside down. We had offered to take care of Tiller (our son’s puppy). When we were told we wouldn’t be needed the ‘Ole Buckeye opted to do the St Charles Cup sailboat race Saturday and Sunday. Then we found out we were needed to dog sit…so Granma became the sitter. Tiller is a handful especially when he needs exercise. The early part of the day was fine but then a very wicked Tstorm moved through with enough rain that the street was flooded to the point that I could not leave. I had dinner from the leftovers in their frig…slim pickens. Feta dip and crackers and a ham and cheese sandwich. Obviously the original dinner plans were shelved.

Ridiculous Meatballs and Spaghetti

The Ridiculous Meatballs and Spaghetti on page 40 of the ,Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook were ridiculously easy to make. By simply using ground Italian Sausage and forming meatballs…plain and simple, putting them in the bottom of the crockpot and covering them with tomatoes and seasoning, slow cooking on low for 6 hours and voila! I actually used Konjac Noodle (Shirataki Noodles) as suggested in the recipe…truly an experiment. Failed experiment. Neither the ‘Ole Buckeye nor I will try them again. I will make zucchini noodles for the eat again meal.

We are on to another adventure. Planning healthy eating on a road trip is always difficult especially if you are not interested in taking a lot of time during a stop. In addition there are always temptations when you are hungry and looking at a menu full of fast food options. We will do our best. We look forward to a week of food, family and friends. Bon Appetit!
