Menu Plan Week # 26

Did you ever have an entire week that simply disappeared?  I mean really get completely away from you.  That was my week last week.  It was one of the most disorganized, busy, stressful weeks I have had since we made our move to Virginia.

Because of the chaos, we did nearly everything all week by the seat of our pants.  There was no menu plan.  Oh yes, we ate, and we actually ate fairly well, but there was literally no time for grocery shopping, a Costco run, or anything else.

After returning from a lovely weekend in Washington DC and a special visit with our daughter, we came home to moving out of our home.

I will definitely explain this whole exercise soon, but let it be known that we spent 5 days emptying, repositioning, transporting, organizing and reorganizing.

We ate what needed to be eaten in order to make space for 2 families within the existing refrigerator and pantry space.  Quite a feat.  In fact it was not only a feat, but an exercise in making the best use of space and keeping it livable.

We combined that with soccer practices, two soccer games, our grand dog’s surgery, and finally our son closing on the sale of his home.  Whew, what a week.  The reason for the chaos…my son’s family moved out of their home into ours.  They have been unable to find a home to buy and the home that they plan to rent in the interim will not be available until mid November.  Yep, there you have it…Chaos.

Amidst all the chaos, I fully realized how helpful it is for planning.  I cooked on the fly trying to use ingredients that would help create more room in the refrigerator and the freezer.  I will admit that we still ate quite well and were ultimately successfully making room.  I can’t say that things are organized as yet, but we have continued living, not just existing.

Going forward, however, I am back to planning and shopping accordingly.  I truly missed the meal plan and ended up making 2 grocery runs due to lack of organization.

Our trips to Costco will more than likely be curtailed for the next weeks.  We simply will not have room for bulk buying.

Hopefully the past week has been successful enough to allow us to enjoy life again.  Regardless, I have a plan for eating!
