Life as a Turketarian

Have you seen the commercial for some brand of turkey…you know the brand preferred by “Turketarians”?  Well, I can’t say that I prefer that particular brand but it has given us a term for the general direction of our diet.  We eat turkey three or four times a week, chicken or fish once or twice and beef (maybe) once a week.  This has resulted in my daughter and I (between the two of us) losing more than 75 pounds since January.

Last week London Broil was on sale and since it is a very lean cut of beef (we trim it to be even leaner), we decided to have beef three times last week.  We both gained weight.  Now, this should not happen since the poultry is no more lean than the beef.  But gain we did.  The other possibility is that we did not eat enough during the week.  It is still a definite that if we do not get enough calories, we gain weight but the chances of both of us having deficit calories in the same week is pretty low odds.  The past three days we have had turkey and “voila”  the pounds came off.

We eat turkey bacon for breakfast and blts.  We have turkey meatloaf, turkey meatballs and turkey burgers.  We use ground turkey in our tacos and burritos, in our chili and spaghetti sauce.  Turkey sausage, turkey sloppy joes, turkey taco salad.  You get the picture.

Do I notice the difference in flavor.  Sure.  Turkey needs a lot more spice and zhuzhing.  Do I notice the difference in my muffin top.  Sure.  Almost gone!
