The menu plan for week 44 is tentative to say the least. Nearly the entire menu is based on whether we will be spending the entire week at home. As our retired life of “non routine” kicks into gear, I am totally uncertain what the weekend will bring.
The furniture market in High Point, North Carolina, is this weekend and we have the opportunity to go. We have made reservations at a Residence Inn in Winston Salem. As a kid I was in Winston Salem with my family on one of our few vacations together. In fact I learned how “not” to ride a horse while I was there. (To this day I have never learned how to ride a horse.) My memories are of a beautiful area. It would be fun to explore it once again.
In our retirement, we have the rare opportunity to determine our shorter road trips, often at the last minute. After considering our interest, the weather, and our health, (we have both been battling allergies since the pollen in Virginia is at record highs), we can decide if the trip is a “go”.
If indeed, we do decide to go, how do I handle meals? The Residence Inn has a full kitchen. Do we eat in, or eat out? Do I do food prep in advance, or do we explore?
My biggest concern is the congestion in the restaurants due to the huge attendance at High Point Market.
My current thinking is to pre-make several of the meals. They can be frozen for future use, or added to a cooler and travel with us for in house prep at our hotel sight.
Advantage…Retirement. We do what we want….”Because we can”.
It will be interesting to see what the ultimate outcome will be, but regardless the Menu plan for week 44 has interest. It is comprised with past successes that I am tweaking. If successful they should move to family favorites and claim a spot on our meal rotation.
So, it will be interesting to see what the days ahead will bring. Regardless of where life takes us, here’s to good eating!!!
