Carol’s Essential Gadget #5 the Fish Spatula

Carol’s essential gadget #5 is a fairly newly acquired fish spatula. Actually I ordered the Winco spatula from Amazon in April 2020. (Under quarantine I was experimenting more in the kitchen.) I was introduced to the fish spatula by my daughter. She has greatly downsized and this is one of her essential gadgets. To be honest, I didn’t need another utensil or so I thought. For the price ($6.52) I decided that I didn’t have anything to loose. Money well spent.

My daughter is in good company as far as this gadget is concerned. When asked for a list of his favorite things, Brad Leone of Bon Appetit’s hit video series, It’s Alive, relayed that this inexpensive spatula made the cut.

I began using this spatula for fish, but it has quickly come forward for many other uses. It is thin and slides under food much more easily than my other spatulas. The beveled edge loosens things that it slips under, and the slats allow excess oil and grease to drip off. It has become my go-to tool when frying eggs. The 6 1/2 inch surface supports foods that my other spatula couldn’t handle without breaking when flipping. The longer I have it, the more often I find that I am using it.

I also have a fish spatula. It is so much my favorite spatula that I never put it in the dishwasher because it may not be available when I next need it. Yep, I wash it by hand every time.

My fish spatula is made for non-stick pans which is a plus since, like Carol, I use it for frying eggs and I always use non-stick for eggs. It is a definite multi-tasker that I would not want to be without!
