The Vegetable Garden – End of June in Jersey

Well, it is known as “The Garden State” and so far our vegetable garden (compact though it is compared to our Ohio garden) is living up to its Jersey roots. (Ha! accidental pun)

The peppers and tomatoes.

Mind you, we are just starting the final week in June.  Last frost date here is late October.  LOTS of growing time to go.  To give you some perspective, if you look at the far right side of the picture, you will see our tallest tomato plant almost reaching the top of the neighbors bushes!  That tomato plant is currently 7 feet tall!  Not a leggy seven feet either, this sucker (oops another pun if you are a gardener) is a buxom, full bodies seven footer.  We may be in danger of overpopulating the tomato world this summer!  We have 21 tomato plants.

Cucumbers, beans, asparagus, zucchini.

I can never throw away a seedling! I gave away all my extras except these three formerly scrawny guys who love their life in the pot!

But there are three grandkids in the family so we decided to have a kids garden in the only other sunny corner of the backyard.

Let the canning and pickling and chowing down begin!
