Who doesn’t love Burger Night especially in the summer months when a grill is involved. We instituted a weekly Taco Night (sometimes burritos or enchiladas or Mexican casserole) and a weekly Burger Night long ago. The kids do better with some standard meals to lessen the challenges of new recipes so often. (My daughter and I like to try new foods so we must be reined in a bit!)
For this reason, over the past few months, we have gathered a few recipes for burgers that we enjoy. All are based on poultry instead of beef. All are reliant on good seasoning to make them yummy.
Southwest Turkey Burgers : Rachael Ray : Food Network
Ingredients 8 slices turkey bacon or turkey bacon with black pepper or applewood smoked bacon 1 1/3 pounds ground turkey breast, the average weight of 1 package 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped 1 large shallot or 1/4 red onion, finely chopped 2 tablespoons chopped fresh thyme leaves or 1 teaspoon
I usually make two versions of this burger. One spicy, another without peppers at all since the kids are at an age that they are suspicious of vegetables in their burgers. We consider the bacon optional depending on our mood but the pepper jack is great as a topping.
Chicken Burgers with Basil Yogurt Sauce Recipe
These juicy, open-faced burgers are smothered with a sweet and tangy basil yogurt sauce and topped with cheese, avocado and all the fixings – we promise, they’ll be your new favorite burgers!
These are flat out good. The kids did not go for many of the toppings but the adults loved it all. We used light burger buns and low fat cheese to minimize the calories and replaced the full fat yogurt with nonfat Greek.
Greek-Style Turkey Burgers Recipe – Food.com
The best turkey burgers i have ever tried …. I freeze left-overs, and heat in the microwave later …
This is our newest burger. Nice Greek flavors. We made two versions, one with the seasonings but no feta and olives. The with the whole enchilada of ingredients. The adults loved the full flavored burgers. We just served them with a big slice of sweet onion but they would be nice with some tzaziki sauce and tomatoes.
With three good recipes in the rotation, Burger Night is a shoo in for summer!
I remember burger nights when we were kids – and our half bottle of Coke to wash them down! Another tradition carried on.
We tried the Greek turkey burgers this past week. We made 4 large burgers and ate them for 2 different meals. Cook once, Eat twice.
I tweaked the recipe slightly by adding a good measure of fresh chopped dill and the juice and zest of a half of a lemon. The ‘Ole Buckeye topped with tzatziki and I topped with a generous slice of sweet onion. We tried the burger on a pretzel roll the first time (because they needed to be used) and a toasted English muffin the second time. The English muffin was by far the way to go.
I am not a fan of ground turkey, but these burgers were exceptionally good and I will add them to our meal rotation. Thanks Jan!
