I like color. A lot.
That being said, I grew up with a mother whose idea of wall color was white. All of them. Every room. And not ivory or cream or beige, white. So it has taken a lot of courage for me over the years to experiment with any other color other than pushing the white envelope to a nice beige or even taupe.
When we bought the ranch, the interior of the house had just been repainted a very acceptable beige/taupe. However, after 6+ years, the paint is starting to beg for a refresh, or — dare I say it — a change of color.
I’ve decided to start in the bathrooms, particularly the master bath, mostly because we recently had to do a major repair on the shower that now requires painting. As the whole room needs it, I figured it’s a good excuse for a color change. I’ve been agonizing over the color for a while, and have finally decided to go big or go home (wait, I AM home…) — plus the beauty of paint is you can always paint over it.
So here’s what we’re starting with. Beige (the lighting is giving it a bit more color than is actually there). My inspiration room is the master bedroom. I’m very fond of the brown/turquoise combination (cat is optional in most homes, although she nicely coordinates here), and decided to carry that over to the bath. Since the bath already has the slate-look flooring, that leaves turquoise for the walls. (Looking at the photos, I also need to explore some organizational options… yeesh.)
My head wants to go pale, pastel, hint at color, but my heart says GO FOR IT. So go for it I have, buying a gallon of the new HGTV Sherwin Williams paint from Lowe’s in “Reflecting Pool”. I’m scared to death it’s too dark, and is to going to make the room feel too dark, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. The project begins today, so stay tuned!
I love the color…have toyed with it here as well in our coastal environment.
You should do a before and after picture and post on your next blog!!
Not sure I can paint that fast! I’ve started it though, and update will be coming soon.
