I have decided that if you do the same thing 2 years in a row it becomes a tradition.
Yesterday was mom’s birthday. We had a busy morning and on the way home stopped at my favorite grocery store Fresh Market. Fresh Market specializes in healthy, but I decided to look for a chocolate cake mix anyway. Hidden away beside all of the gluten free desert mixes, I found a chocolate cake mix….expensive, but it avoided an additional stop. I had decided in my mind to make a cake and celebrate mom’s birthday. My decision was iced when I spotted this display!
So cake mix and gummy bears in hand we headed home.
I realized when we arrived home that this was no ordinary Duncan Hines or Betty Crocker. It called for room temperature eggs, milk, and melted and cooled butter. The waiting game began. Finally late in the day, I made the cake. I was in no mood at that point to layer or cup, so a 9×13 it was.
By the time it came out of the oven, it was late. I called the son to be sure the grand girls had eaten and could have cake. Yes! So we packed up half of the cake and a bag of gummy bears and made the trek.
The girls were beaming. They soooo love deserts. They remembered the celebration we had last year and were excited to celebrate again. We sang a hearty Happy Birthday Dear Lucia.
Since The “Ole Buckeye and I had not had dinner, we left them to enjoy the decadence.
After dinner we did the same.
So 2 years counting we have had a birthday celebration on January 10th.
Miss you Mom!
